FLORAL FANTASY - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

FLORAL FANTASY
- DILS Debojyoti Sinha -

Published in PYNURSLA, Meghalaya, 3-12-94

Rose,
You are the symbol of divine beauty
But, why are you not confident of
yourself ;
Of your graceful existence ?

What prompted you to
Tussle with a Tube- Rose
And force it to call a ‘Tube’?

Can a ‘Tube-Rose’ pose
Any threat to a Rose
Of its identity and grandeur ?

Why is this concocted fear-psychosis ?
Or in other words
Are you a ‘China Rose’ in disguise
Or a jumbled ‘Sore’!

LA BELLE - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

LA BELLE
- DILS Debojyoti Sinha -

Gauhati- 20-8-81

All my hopes and wishes were paralysed;
To suck sweet honey from Shakespeare’s hive,
Or in Wordsworth’s Nature visualized.
And in Keats’ billet doux wanted to dive.

All went in vain; Her majesty’s shrewd talent
And Manmon’s blind tenants; savage utmost,
Crushing the Seat of Muse every moment;
Deep agony shrouded me; all spirits lost.

But, a day I found you - as if a myth;
Ivory hue, big eyes, large hearts, tone pleasant,
Expunged all my agony and brimmed with
A sweet feeling - heavenly contentment.

The living ray of hope ; Oh my La Belle,
Love me and live long with your magic spell.

DAVID AND JONATHON - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

DAVID AND JONATHON
- DILS Debojyoti Sinha -

(Published in The Scroll, the wall magazine of the
Department of English, Gauhati University in 1981)

Moving in vain and utter hopelessness
Lost the way and losing myself a man
Indulged in cheap pleasures; got no progress
Found myself a layman with a leman.

In such a scornful state I met you,
Like a blooming flower ever smiling
With a heap of knowledge and thoughts anew,
To my great ecstasy and strange feeling.

You showed me the way and where to be moved;
I heared and followed with a heart benign,
Though often I failed and unworthy proved
You forgave me with your sympathy divine.

Guide me for good in the life’s marathon
A wise David to a wayward Jonathon.

INDIAN - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

INDIAN
 - DILS Debojyoti Sinha -

(Published in N.E. SUN, March 26 - April 01, 1994)

When I die do not get me buried
Burn me to ashes to make some tars.
With great shock I see
The rage, the anger, the frustration
The sense of deprivation
Spread on the highway like a zabra-cross
“We are not Indians”

What promoted them to say so?
Oh! the guardians of the Nation
Heal them or kill me!
And whin I die oh! my friends
Do not get me buried
Burn me to ashes to make some tars.

I’ll spread on your way to success
I’ll inspire you a brave fight
I’ll lick only the word ‘not’
To make you proudly proclaim
“We are Indians”
And when I die
Do not get me buried...

MOTHER - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

MOTHER
- DILS Debojyoti Sinha-

You say your mother is ‘good’
Agreed and I resect, too.
When I say my mother is ‘very good’
Why do you protest?

Is ‘good’ a patent word
For your mother only!

Oh! my friend,
By saying my mother’s very good
I never mean your mother’s not good.

Do you bear, oh! The children of the seven bills,
Do you bear, oh! The children of the ‘Luit’,
Do you bear, oh! The people of the nation,
Do you bear, oh! The soul of my country?
Do you get deaf when I cry,
Do you get thrilled when I die!

DARLING - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

DARLING

(Based on “THOIGO” of Madan Mohan Mukharjee in Bishnupriya Manipuri.
First published in SELPUNG, 1997)

- DILS Debojyoti Sinha-
                   You are my heart
You are my song,
I have ruined my life
            only for you!

For you, I am self-oblivious
Though to others, a trash
Yet people know that
You are my great darling.
I have ruined my life
            only for you!

You are my hope,
you are my faith,
Even if this life gets withered
                No remorse!

As I have already offerred
This life to you.

Let me turn to ashes
Burning in the fire of misery
I know I will be in heaven
If I can die for you.
Even if this life gets withered
No remorse.

As I have already offerred
            This life to you.

THE CLARION CALL - Poem by DILS Debojyoti Sinha

THE CLARION CALL
- DILS Debojyoti Sinha -

Published in " SMARANIKA 2010": a souvenir published on the occasion of 114th Birth anniversary of Gokulananda Gitiswami on 21st November'10 at Shilpagram ,Guwahati, Assam.

The boat of the Bishnupriyas got afloat again
In the sea of time, bisecting the waves of misery.
Come on, ride quickly.
Do not get afraid of the storm of clan discriminations among us.
Come on, ride quickly by chanting the name of Lord Bishnu.

Tanubabu and Kirtibabu are the flags
And are flying high defying the storm.
Do not get afraid , come on, ride quickly
The boat is afloat negotiating the waves.

Mahendrababu is the sailor, Krishnadas the helmsman
Dhirachandra, Nila Mukharjee are with them to assist,
Rudrababu is the shed, Krishnakumar the pushing pole,
Falguni, Babuchand B.L. are the oarsmen.
The boat is afloat braving the waves
Do not get afraid, come on , ride quickly

Jadab master is the first passenger from the Madai's
Nadia from Kanchanbari, a lot from Halhali
Though some villages are curiously away
Causing, for all, a painful concern.

To board in the boat from the shore
The linking plank, made of Gokul's heart, is there.
The light and the heavy can walk through easily
And, to board in and off, keep it safe with care.

The boat of the Bishnupriyas got afloat again
In the sea of time, bisecting the waves of misery
Come on, ride quickly by chanting the name of Lord Bishnu.

(Based on Gokulananda Gitiswami's Kal Sagare Bahil Baro........)
